About me

I love sustainability
I geek out on making things efficient, perhaps due to an engineering
background. I write articles and make videos about DIY sustainability
solutions on an individual scale (for some of the world’s largest
issues).
This website has a collection of content on topics I’ve
dug into (a dual meaning since my last name literally means ‘ditch
digger’ in German and I’ve shoveled like mad in my yard learning how to
harvest rainwater)!
Let’s work together to stop climate change.
My Story

I grew up in sunny San Diego, California,
always outdoors in close contact with nature. Beaches, mountains, lakes,
rivers, you name it. From an early age I thought about how lifestyle,
politics, technology, and many other factors shape our world. I want others
to experience the healthy childhood I had.
I recently lived in Tucson, Arizona
where water and land use are such critical factors.
I now live in an apartment
Olympia, WA after escaping the ever-increasing desert heat which was becoming difficult.
So I'll include some apartment specific content as well.
I used my Tucson home as a testing ground for some solutions like rainwater and greywater harvesting, for southwest living
and beyond. I started this website to share some of what I’ve learned with
my DIY projects and to help others.
I’m a husband, proud dad of two,
an avid cyclist, a beginner gardener (I’ve
found it is hard to kill kale!), a punk rocker and underground music lover, an
ex used EV owner, and a papa
to a greyhound doggie who sleeps all day.
